Care to Change: Empowering communities through education, Anchor Land donates school building in Benguet

No disaster can impede a genuine commitment to caring for others.

Only a few minutes after a magnitude 7 earthquake shook northwestern Luzon on July 27, Anchor Land Holdings, Inc. (ALHI) turned over a building to a public school in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Tacdian Elementary School in Barangay Shilan received one two-classroom building from the publicly listed developer, just in time for the start of school year 2022-2023.

Anchor Land’s donation was coursed through the Operation Barrio Schools project of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Inc. (FFCCCII), in close partnership with the Baguio Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (BFCCCI).

Anchor Land and FFCCCII representatives turn over the signed Deed of Donation to Tacdian Elementary School principal Rosalina Laureta.

The school building was inaugurated by FFCCCII representatives, led by Mary Go Ng, executive vice president; William Castro, vice president; Robert Ang, welfare co-chairman; and Lily Lim, media committee vice chairperson. BFCCCI president Peter Ng was also present.

“This act of goodness is one way of addressing the shortage of classrooms for schoolchildren, especially during difficult times such as this,” Peter Ng was quoted as saying.

Started in 1960, Operation Barrio Schools is the longest-running private sector-led project aimed at addressing classroom shortage in the Philippines. To date, FFCCCII has built over 13,000 classrooms across the country.

Teachers of Tacdian Elementary School happily pose at their new school building donated by Anchor Land under the Operation Barrio Schools project of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Inc. (FFCCCII).

Anchor Land has long been supporting FFCCCII’s legacy project of improving the state of education in the Philippine barrios, as well as the federation’s socio-civic and disaster relief efforts. Together with FFCCCII, Anchor Land upholds its mission of strengthening communities by enhancing the lives of those in need.
